In this area there are many public footpaths & cycle ways. The famous C2C cycle route is only one field away.

There is cricket at Chester-le Street, golf at Slaley Hall, bowls at Stanley, racing at Hexham, horse riding, bird watching, and fishing on the many rivers and reservoirs.

The unusually clear light in the North East is particularly favoured by landscape artists and photographers.
